There are various academic support services, tutoring options, etc. offered to students from various quarters.

UCLA Economics

Ph.D students in the UCLA Department of Economics offer tutoring to undergraduate students at an hourly rate. The students can access the detailed list of tutors for each semester through this link.

UCLA Engineering

Tau Beta Pi (TBP) (an Engineering honor society) is the second oldest honor society.  It was founded in 1885 and it supports UCLA’s engineering students in improving their academic performance. It offers engineering and non-engineering students assistance in subjects such as introductory physics, chemistry and calculus, as well as advanced levels of computer science and other upper division engineering courses. TBP has highly qualified, eager and dedicated tutors who are available from Monday to Friday, 10.00 a.m. to 5 p.m. Students can also drop a mail to tutoring@tbp.seas.ucla.edu for any further queries. UCLA Mathematics

  • The Math department has published a list of tutors who are interested in tutoring students who need help. The students can get in touch with them here and fix schedules and rates.
  • The Student Math Center offers tutoring to students enrolled in UCLA lower division mathematics courses. Courses taught are Math 3BC,11, 31AB, 32AB, 33AB, 61 from Mondays through Thursdays, 10.00 am to 3.00 pm. It’s located in located in MS 3974.

UCLA Physics and Astronomy

The department has published a list of private tutors with whom the students can get in touch and request tutoring. The department as such does not provide tutoring to its students. The list is published here and it will be refreshed at frequent intervals.      

AAP Peer Learning

It is the nation’s largest university-based student diversity program. They provide Free Peer Learning to students who want to improve their quantitative skills, improve their reasoning and do well in their courses. AAP trains around 130 Peer Learning Facilitators  every year and they conduct workshops for around 2000 AAP students every week. Most of the Peer Learning Sessions are in small groups of ten to twelve persons. The aim is to place students at the center of Peer Learning sessions, making students responsible for interpreting materials, questioning concepts, and testing the ideas encountered in classes.

The program teaches over 90 courses ranging from Math, Science, Humanities, Social Science, and Languages. Students are to log in to the AAP Learning sessions here.   

UCLA Chemistry and Bio-Chemistry

UCLA’s Chemistry department is as vast as the subject and students have ample opportunities to pursue their interests. The department has a dedicated tab for Student Resources on their site which talks about the various academic support resources available. A tutor list is also provided with a link which the students can visit to contact the tutors. Websites related to the course are also published on the site.  

UCLA History

The department of History offers one–on-one assistance with all stages of the writing process. The History Writing Center is a discipline-specific center that is open to all undergraduate students enrolled in History classes. The student can book an appointment or walk into the History Writing Center. The HWC is located in A61, Humanities, 6265 Bunche Hall, Box 951473, University Of California, Los Angeles. It is open from Monday through Thursday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Friday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Please visit the site for instructions.

UCLA Writing Center

The writing center offers guidance for students and reaches out to diverse students keeping in mind the diverse student background of UCLA. It has many aspects to it including ELS focused courses, first year composition courses at varied levels, and specialized advanced offerings. It ensures that students become independent writing in their academic and professional front. It is a part of the Humanities division of UCLA College. The schedules will keep varying with every semester and it will be published in the site here.  The writing centers are in three different locations namely

  • A61, Humanities Division
  • Social Science Satellite, Powell 238
  • Rieber Hall, 115 (for on campus residents only)

Students are advised to check the timings and book appointment if possible before visiting the center.

UCLA College Academic Counseling

Every college has its own set of norms and guidelines. CAC helps students sail through these norms without any trouble and help them in getting settled with the college environment. CAC is located in College Academic Counseling, A-316 Murphy Hall, Box 951430, Los Angeles. Drop in advising is held on Mondays and Tuesdays 10.00 am to 12.00 pm and Fridays 10.30 am to 12.00 pm. The student can meet up with College Academic Mentor and also a Full time Counselor for advisement. Counselors are available at five different convenient locations at the timings provided here. CAC helps students with many issues related to academic major and minors, petitions and forms and various other issues.

Life Sciences Core Peer Learning

The center offers currently enrolled, UCLA undergraduates free learning support aimed at developing academic skills, critical thinking, and independent learning. It is staffed by carefully selected and trained Peer Learning Facilitators, chosen for their academic excellence and communication skills.  Learning assistance is provided in the form og group sessions where students can ask questions, test their mastery of concepts and improve their problem solving skills, learning methods, and study strategies. Weekly group assistance is provided for LS7A, LS2, LS3 and LS4. Appointments can be scheduled through MyUCLA beginning on Thursday, of week 1 at 8:00pm by clicking on the “Academics” tab on the top menu and selecting “Peer Learning,” kindly visit site for further details.
