Kellogg Marketplace Tutoring Program

Through the Kellogg Tutoring Marketplace, individuals or groups of students from all of Kellogg’s degree programs can connect with tutors who have been identified by the Dean’s Office and faculty as exceptionally qualified, to supplement their learning in the classroom. This tutoring is namely for:

Small Group Tutoring

These sessions are by second year students and arranged by the Academic Services of the school. The students can attend these tutoring sessions for free – not more than one session per week per course. Peer Guided Study Groups- It is a small comfortable learning community that meets during regular intervals throughout a quarter to support course learning. It has replaced two earlier programs of NU known as Academic Mentoring Program and Gateway Science Workshops, combining the best  of both. Students who are enrolled in the courses can join the respective Peer Guided Study groups. The participants will meet weekly in a group of five or seven students and a peer facilitator who may be another student who has done well in the course. Peer and TA tutoring help-  Peer tutoring is mainly taken for Science, Math and Engineering courses on one hand and Social Science and Humanities on the other hand.

Evening Drop-in Peer tutoring for Chemistry, Math and Physics is available from Sunday to Wednesday from 8.00 pm to 10.00 pm in Tech HG04. It is also available in Shepard B05 on Sundays and Wednesdays from 8.00 pm to 10.00 pm. For Economics and Statistics, Tuesdays through Thursdays from 8.00 pm to 10.00 pm in Main Library, North Tower and Study Rooms, Lower Level. Courses covered are:

Many individual departments also provide academic help in the form of tutoring, workshops etc.

The Department of Chemistry offers TA tutoring throughout the week for General Chemistry and Organic Chemistry.

The Department of Physics & Astronomy offers TA tutoring throughout the week each quarter for Physics 130 and 135.

The Math Place offers tutoring on the Chicago campus for students enrolled in the School of Continuing Studies, or other Northwestern math courses. It also hosts Math Exam Review Study Tables to help students prepare for midterms and finals through Mathematics Department.

Tech Tutoring offers peer and TA tutoring in engineering subjects, as well as science and math, for first- and second-year engineering students. All sessions take place in Tech MG28 from Mondays to Thursdays, 2.00 pm to 5.00 pm and 7.00 pm to 1.00 pm. Courses taught are all levels of calculus, general chemistry and physics. Engineering courses such as engineering analysis, thermodynamics and mechanics are also taught by graduate students and senior engineering students.

The Economics Department and Office of Residential Academic Initiatives partner to host Economics Exam Review Study Tables to help students prepare for midterms and finals.  Details are publicized to students enrolled in covered courses in advance of the sessions.

Writing Centers at Northwestern University

The Writing Place is Northwestern’s center for peer writing consultations. Consultants can help at any stage of the writing process on projects ranging from class papers to application letters and essays. Consultations are available to anyone in the Northwestern community.

The Graduate Writing Place is staffed by advanced PhD candidates from various disciplines, serving Northwestern graduate students working on dissertations, conference papers and journal publications. Consultations are also open to post-docs, faculty and staff.

Schaffner’s Writing Place offers writing support on the Chicago campus for students in the School of Professional Studies, as well as other Chicago campus students. Online and distance appointments are available.

The History Writing Center offers writing help for students in any history course.

NuWrite is Northwestern’s home for online writing resources, contributed by faculty. These include writing advice, grading criteria, sample paper topics, and teaching tips.

Academic Support & Learning Advancement offers Northwestern undergrads various mentoring resources to develop their learning strategies.

Undergraduate Program for Advancing Learning (UPAL): A quarter-long small-group experience, with peer mentoring, focused on enhancing your academic experiences at Northwestern.
